Maja Matijanec was born in Zagreb, Croatia.
Her musical education started in Europe, in her hometown Zagreb, Croatia, and continued with a Russian professor Sijavush Gadjiev in Zagreb and Gorizia (Italy). In 2002 she moved to Milan, Italy, where she has graduated and obtained her Master Degree from Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory.
She has decided to continue her musical growth in Linz, Austria (Anton Bruckner Privatuniversitaet), where she completed her studies in the class of Maestro Oleg Marshev, who has been her mentor and professor since many years, and earned herself a second master degree.
As a very small child she already started to give solo concerts and concerts with the orchestra.
Maja was awarded first prize in many national and international competitions. She was also featured in numerous solo concerts and concerts in piano duo in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Brazil including festivals: Naxos in Musica in Sicily, Italy; Guadalquivir in Cordoba, Spain; My Vitalis in Folgaria, Italy; Bolsko lito in Brac, Croatia and other concerts including the ones for Loggione degli Amici della Scala, Milano, Italy, Steinway Haus Linz, Austria, Bruckner Haus Linz, Austria, Teatro Municipal Niteroi, Sala Cecilia Meireles, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Maja Matijanec was also the winner of the Rotary Club Zagreb scholarship.
Currently, she lives in Berlin, Germany and works as a concert pianist and as a piano teacher at the Cosmopolitan School Berlin and Maria Leo Grundschule Pankow supported by the Daniel Barenboim Foundation.
